Elyria police investigating after 2-year-old falls from second-story window

ELYRIA — An investigation is underway after a 2-year-old girl fell from a second-story window Tuesday evening, according to the Elyria Police Department.

Around 7:30 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Tedman Court after receiving a call that a child had fallen out of a window, police said.

Police spoke to the mother of the child who said that she was in the shower at the time of the incident and that either the child’s father or cousin were watching her, according to authorities.

The cousin told police she saw the child go upstairs but assumed she was with he mother. Once upstairs, the child ended up at a second-floor window, police said.

The child fell from the window onto her back, according to a witness on the scene.

After observing the child, EMS on the scene said there were no signs of obvious injury and the child was able to respond to basic questions and told authorities that she was scared. She was taken to a nearby hospital for further observation.

The window that the child fell from had no screen and was open prior to the fall, according to police.

Police said Lorain County Children Services have been contacted in regards to this incident.
