AVON, Ohio — Avon’s former fire chief, Frank Root Jr., who was indicted last year for pandering obscenity involving a minor, is now facing a public indecency charge.

The charge is a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Following the arrest, Root was released on a personal bond. Specific details regarding the case weren’t available.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 20.

Last year, Root Jr. turned himself in to police after being formally indicted on a charge of pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor or impaired person and pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, according to court records.

Root. Jr. has a pretrial hearing scheduled for that case on Oct. 26, according to Lorain County Court of Common Pleas records.

The Avon Police Department began the investigation into Root after a complaint was forwarded from the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office in July of that year.

Root was the Avon fire Chief until 2006, when his son, Frank Root III was made the new fire Chief.
