AVON, Ohio — Old shoes are being given new lives while local law enforcement is getting life-protecting PPE thanks to a unique drive-in Lorain County.
The organization Police Pictures is collecting new, gently-worn and used shoes from members of the community for what they’re calling their Frontline United Initiative.
At the end of the drive, Police Pictures will sell the shoes to Funds 2 Orgs to be cleaned up and given to people in need. The money received will be used to buy the Personal Protective Equipment.
There are collection sites set up at police departments throughout the county. Donors can also mail their shoes and in some cases have their donations picked up at their homes.
The collection drive was supposed to end on August 17, but it was just extended until August 28 for the Wellington, Lorain and Avon locations.
In addition, there was an event in Avon on August 7 where 612 pairs of shoes were dropped off there in just three hours.
Police Pictures has already collected nearly 2,600 pairs of shoes, so it will be able to turn them in for at least $1,250 in Personal Protective Equipment for law enforcement in Lorain County. If they get more shoes, they’ll earn more money.
Donors will receive a thank you card and a thin blue line flag sticker as a thank you.
