LORAIN, Ohio — The Lorain County Sheriff's Office has welcomed two new K-9s to its jail divisions.

K-9 handlers Scott Holbrook and Shea Adkisson completed a 10-week intensive program with their K-9s Roby and Roy at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canine Academy in Marysville.

The extensive program resulted in the officers and their K-9s becoming certified in drug detectors, and learning apprehension and tracking. Officers Holbrook and Shea were required to pass weekly written exams and were instructed on case law governing canine actions.

Ruby and Roy were purchased through donation funds from the local community. The training for the K-9s and their handlers were free of charge.

Sheriff Phil Stammitti first introduced the first K-9 team into the jail operations in 2005.
