LORAIN, Ohio — The Lorain Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Saturday afternoon.

Around 1:11 p.m., a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling eastbound on state Route 611 and after passing the intersection of Elyria Avenue, the car failed to negotiate a curve in the road and the driver lost control, police said.

The Corvette traveled off the right side of the road, struck a guard rail and then struck the 21st Street underpass wall, according to police.

When the vehicle struck the wall, the driver was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The driver, identified as 33-year-old Richard Webber, of Elyria, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, according to police.

Police said Webber did not have a valid driver’s license and excessive speed and reckless driving appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The roadway at the scene was closed for around seven hours while it was investigated and processed for physical evidence, police said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call police at 440-204-2115.
