More trouble in Lorain

Authorities are investigating after a man was fatally shot in Lorain on Sunday morning, the latest in a string of troubling events in the city.

"We had got everybody out the club, our doors were locked, and then we heard shots," Howard Washington said.

Washington was there the night Andre Eugene Hines, 23, was killed and a 22-year-old man was injured in an alley in the 2800 block of Apple Avenue. According to Lorain police, an unknown person opened fire on two men who were walking in an alley after leaving a nearby club.

"I saw him laying in the street. Police were tending to him," Washington said.

The blood stains on the pavement are right down the street from his club — Club Our Space. He said the people involved were not inside that night.

"One of the victims that was shot was not in our club, that's what he stated. But when something happens outside our club many times, people who have beef with someone are coming to the club because they know where they're at," Washington said.

Sunday's shooting happened after a month of shots reported across the city. More than a couple homes nearby are still riddled with bullet holes after being shot into at night. Police said they believe the shootings are not random and are investigating.

Neighbors in the area are scared. Some wouldn't even come out of their homes to talk to News 5 — they either spoke through the window or not at all.

Some believe the violence may be gang-related, which is what one young man told police when he brought a gun to school. He told police he needed it outside school for "self-protection because of the recent west side-south side shootings," according to the police report.

Lorain police have not made any arrests in Sunday's shooting. They're asking anyone with information to come forward.
