An Elyria mother and grandmother appeared in court on their charges related to a 2-year-old girl who was found sleeping alone in a park on Monday morning.
According to police, the girl's mother, Shandra Lambert, was out drinking and left her daughters home with her 71-year-old mother, Sharon Lambert. Sharon Lambert was awoken in the morning to a knock on the door by officers bringing the 2-year-old child home, according to the police report. Sharon Lambert was issued a citation and summons for endangering children.
As officers were walking up to the residence, Shandra Lambert was returning home, police said.
Shandra Lambert was arrested for disorderly conduct persisting after repeatedly and drunkenly interrupting officers and Child Services as they interviewed members of her household when the child was returned home, according to police. After the interviews and observing deplorable conditions inside the home, Child Services determined the children in the house were in danger. While waiting for the children to be picked up, Shandra Lambert, smoking a cigarette, went outside. According to police, she said, "This is f****** b*******. You people are f****** stupid." At this point, Shandra Lambert was arrested for disorderly conduct persisting and taken to the Lorain County Sheriff's Office.
Shandra Lambert was found guilty on Tuesday and fined $246. Sharon Lambert pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in Elyria Municipal Court on August 2.
