ELYRIA, Ohio — A 30-year-old Elyria woman was arrested Sunday after she allegedly tried to attack police officers who found her 4-year-old child wandering around unsupervised about a quarter-mile from home.

The woman has been charged with two counts of endangering children, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct—intoxication, according to Elyria Municipal Court records.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Garden Street around 6:19 p.m. Sunday for a small child who had just been found, an Elyria police report stated.

Police were able to determine that the child resided at a home in the 1000 block of Garden Street. When officers arrived at the residence, they found the mother allegedly intoxicated and hanging halfway out of a car parked in the driveway.

The woman confirmed that the 4-year-old was hers, and also told police that she had another child somewhere inside the residence, the report stated.

Inside the house, officers located a 2-year-old in an upstairs bedroom.

While officers were searching for the second child, the report states that the woman started to "bash her forehead off of the side of the window of her vehicle." She was placed inside a patrol car until another officer arrived to transport her.

When police tried to transfer her into the second cruiser, the woman started "thrashing and screaming," kicked an officer five times and then tried to bite him repeatedly, the report states. Officers used pepper spray on the woman to subdue her and "secure" her in the patrol car.

She has a court hearing scheduled for Oct. 7
