LORAIN, Ohio — Authorities say it appears that a teen who was shot and killed in Lorain earlier this week died from an accidental shooting.

On Monday, authorities responded to the 2100 block of East 31st Street in Lorain for a man shot. When officers arrived, they found the victim, Gabriel A. Blevins, 18, with a gunshot wound to the torso.

Blevins was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

The shooting was initially investigated as a homicide, but police said it was later determined it was "likely caused by the improper handling of a loaded firearm by a teenage friend of the deceased."

The case will be sent to the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office to determine if any charges will be filed against the teen, authorities said.

Another person, Antonio Monticue, 23, was charged with tampering with evidence in connection with the incident.

Monticue is scheduled to appear in Lorain Municipal Court on Dec. 9.
