Police searching for man responsible for hit-and-run crash that killed unborn child

LORAIN, Ohio — Lorain police are searching for a man who drove away from a fatal car accident.

Police said the crash happened before 11:30 p.m. Friday night at the intersection of West 21st Street and Ashland Avenue.

According to police, a man driving a 2020 silver Cadillac SUV was driving northbound on Ashland Avenue, when he failed to stop at the sign and crashed into a 2010 white Kia Forte that was in the intersection.

The Forte stopped north of the intersection and the Cadillac ran off the road, overturned and stopped on its roof.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot wearing a white shirt and red shorts.

The 29-year-old woman driving the Kia was critically injured in the crash.

She was transported to MercyHealth, where she underwent emergency surgery.

Unfortunately, her unborn child died as a result of injuries from the crash.

The woman's 10-year-old son was flown to Metro Hospital in unknown condition and her five-year-old son was transported to MercyHealth and later released.
