GRAFTON, Ohio — A family is thankful their loved ones are safe after a tree toppled on a home in Grafton after Friday storms.

The home belonged to 84-year-old Sue Kelly, who lived there with her 74-year-old brother, Guy Miller.

Neighbor Rico Torres said he was sitting on the porch with Miller when he saw the storm coming. They hunkered down inside and hoped for the best.

“We heard a powerful crashing noise, and the next thing you could do is just tuck down," Torres said.

Branches crashed through the home, destroying windows, doors and the entire ceiling. Torres ran to a neighbor's home to call 911, then went back in the home to rescue Miller, along with his oxygen tank.

According to family, Kelly was at the hospital at the time of the destruction.

With branches completely covering the home and yard, family members are hoping they can get inside and salvage memories.

Kelly's grandson Brandan Radar said he planted his roots in this home, and is hoping he can save a few things.

“My uncle passed away several years ago, and his ashes are in there," he said. "Service records from my grandfather being in the army.”

Radar said their insurance company is coming out Monday to assess the damage.
