Maria's Field of Hope—a sunflower sanctuary that brings awareness to childhood cancer—will bloom one more time before moving locations.
A field that started with the planting of seeds in 2014 has turned into a sea of sunflowers that have been captured on social media countless times. In a Facebook Post, the folks behind Maria's Field of Hope said the field is moving as a result of nearby development.
The field, located at 34925 Chester Road in Avon, has been an anchor of inspiration for cancer survivors and their families who are going through similar situations like the family of Maria McNamara did. On April 1, 2006, Ed and Maria McNamara received the devastating news that their 6-year-old daughter Maria was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive tumor called diffused intrinsic pontine glioma. Over the course of 14 months, Maria's health rapidly declined and on July 14, 2007, she died at the age of 7.

Since her death, the McNamara family has set up Prayers from Maria organization to help fund childhood cancer research and to continue her legacy that she left behind.
