LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — With an Excessive Heat Warning in place, the Lorain County Public Health Department has given a few tips on how to stay cool.
- Spend less time outside when possible.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Eat light foods.
- Wear lightweight clothing
- Take a cool bath
- Avoid getting sunburned
- Give children and older adults plenty of fluids
- Check on older adults and children regularly.
- Remember to never leave pets and children in cars, even with the windows cracked open.
- Stay in air-conditioned buildings as much as possible.
- If your home does not have an air conditioner, visit a mall or library.
- Do not rely on a fan as your main cooling source.
- Keep your house cool by not using the stove or open.
- Protect yourself from the sun by using a hat or sunglasses.
- Know the symptoms of heat-related illnesses
- Provide plenty of fresh water to pets
- Check the news for heat advisories
- Have a "Beat the Heat Buddy"
- Take precautions if you have heart disease.
- Seek care for heat-related symptoms like cramps or nausea
