LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a commercial vehicle.
Troopers said the accident happened near the westbound exit ramp from the Ohio Turnpike to Baumhart Road.
Officials said the preliminary investigating determined a commercial vehicle driving west veered to the right side of the road, traveled through a grass gore, hit an embankment for the exit ramp, vaulted over the lanes, struck a minivan and came to a rest in a ditch off the side of the road.
The commercial vehicle then caught fire with the driver trapped inside.
Troopers will not release the identify of the person who died until family is notified.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission Maintenance Department, South Amherst Fire, Life Care EMS and Interstate Towing.
