ELYRIA, Ohio — A woman accused of leaving the scene of a crash after she allegedly struck a bicyclist in Avon Lake in May was arraigned in court on Thursday.
Allison Spoerl, 21, pleaded not guilty in Lorain County Common Pleas Court to charges of aggravated vehicular assault, tampering with evidence, stopping after an accident, change of identity and vehicle registration and falsification.
Spoerl’s driver’s license was initially suspended but then later reinstalled, according to court records.
The crash happened May 15. Authorities say Spoerl struck a woman on a bicycle and then fled the scene. Police said they tracked Spoerl down after recovering a vehicle from an Avon auto body shop that matched surveillance footage of the crash.
Following the crash, the bicyclist, identified as a 51-year-old woman, was seriously injured and life-flighted from the Avon Lake Fire Department lot to Metro Hospital.
