Woman arrested for Avon Lake hit-skip that left bicyclist injured

AVON LAKE — A 21-year-old woman has been arrested on a slew of charges for allegedly leaving the scene of crash after striking a woman on a bicycle in Avon Lake on Wednesday.

According to police, Allison Spoerl, of Avon Lake, has been charged with failure to yield, reckless operation, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, assault, obstruction of official business, tampering with evidence and possession of criminal tools.

Police said they tracked Spoerl down after recovering a vehicle from an Avon auto body shop that matched surveillance footage of the crash.

Sporel is scheduled to appear in court on June 6.

The crash happened Wednesday at around 4 p.m. at the corner of Lake and Moore roads.

The bicyclist, identified as a 51-year-old woman, was seriously injured and life-flighted from the Avon Lake Fire Department lot to Metro Hospital, the release states. She remains was in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon, according to an Avon Lake police official.
