MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — A great horned owl that was rescued and rehabilitated after being caught in fishing line has been released back into the wild.

The owl was spotted by a concerned citizen on Thursday.

The bird had more than two feet of discarded fishing line wrapped around its legs and wings.

A Medina County sheriff’s deputy went above and beyond the call of duty and rescued the owl. The bird was brought back to the Medina Raptor Center where volunteers had the precarious task of carefully removing the fishing line.

The owl was kept at the center while he recovered from its injuries, which weren’t considered to be serious.
