WADSWORTH, Ohio — A Wadsworth City School District bus carrying students to a bowling tournament was involved in a crash on Interstate 76 Saturday morning, according to Wadsworth Bruin's student and staff writer Chris Steele.
The bus was carrying more than a dozen students and two coaches in addition to the driver. The crash happened just before 8:30 a.m. when an SUV attempted to pass the bus and spun out of control. Despite slowing down, the bus crashed into the driver's side door of the SUV. A second car then struck the left side of the bus causing the smaller car to get lodged underneath the larger vehicle, Steele said in The Bruin.
The highway was shut down for about two hours while emergency crews worked the scene.
According to Steele, one person from the car that struck the bus was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is currently unknown.
Students were later picked up and taken back to the high school. As a result of the crash, the school had to withdraw from the tournament.
The crash remains under investigation.
