SHALERSVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Three people were killed in a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Portage County Sunday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Around 3:33 p.m., troopers were called to the 8100 block of Peck Road in Shalersville Township for a report of a serious crash.

Once on scene, troopers found a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado off the east side of the road with severe damage after it struck a tree, troopers said.

There were eight occupants in the Silverado at the time of the crash, according to troopers.

Marlana Mullin, 22, Christine Shead, 12, and Evey Montecalvo, 12, died as a result of the crash while the other five were transported to nearby hospitals from the scene with serious injuries, troopers said.

“Unsafe speed, impairment and not wearing an available safety belt continue to be leading causes of traffic fatalities, and this tragic incident involves all three,” said Lieutenant Jeffrey Greene, Ravenna Post commander. “Troopers will continue with a zero-tolerance approach in regard to these violations so families do not have to suffer through so much loss. Crashes such as this one are completely preventable.”

According to troopers, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
