DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 4-year-old boy was struck and killed by a passing vehicle on US-244 in Deerfield Township Saturday afternoon, according to the Ravenna Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Around 12:24 p.m., a Garfield Heights mother parked her vehicle on the side of US-244 and was standing outside of the vehicle with her 4-year-old son, troopers said.
While the two stood on the side of the road, the boy managed to make his way onto the road and was struck by a passing 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, according to troopers.
The boy was transported to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center where he later died, troopers said.
The driver of the Trailblazer was not injured in the crash and remained on the scene during the investigation, according to troopers.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in this incident, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
