STREETSBORO, Ohio — For the second time in less than a month, volunteers with Ohio Relief Haulers left Streetsboro en route to Nebraska to help farmers who have been devastated by flooding.

“In this country we are all neighbors,” said Travis Hamlin with the group. “It doesn’t matter how far away you are, we are going to come help you. If you need help we are going to do our best to stick together and help you in the farming community.”

On April 5, 52 trucks loaded with farm supplies made the trek to those in need, this time around Hamlin, who helps spearhead the group, says they have 30 trucks but half of those are semis.

"We are able to haul a lot more material with less vehicles," Hamlin said standing in the rain in a dark Streetsboro parking lot at 3:45 a.m. Friday.

Doug Jarvis of Homeworth, Ohio is making his first trip this morning. His truck and trailer were loaded with bales of hay, fence posts, fence and even some corn. Jarvis echos the feeling of everyone in the group when he says, "I've worked in agriculture all my life and this is just part of the agricultural community, we all come together and help each other out."

A group of about 10 pickup trucks hauling trailers left just after 4 a.m. with a police escort along Route 14 to the Ohio Turnpike. Once on the Turnpike they will meet up along the way with the semis to fill out their convoy.

Hamlin said this has grown into something bigger and he is working to make Ohio Relief Haulers an official nonprofit group that he hopes will be able to lend a hand in the future for those in need.

If you would like to follow along with their journey, they will post updates on their a Facebook page.
