A Portage County woman is facing charges after she ignored closing announcements and got locked inside a department store as she tried on clothes in the dressing room.
According to Brimfield police, Joanne Havens was charged with theft without consent after she exited the changing rooms at Kohl's and noticed she was the only one around.
Havens, 35, dialed 911 for help to get her out of the store. Officers were already on their way to the store when Havens called after several motion sensors and alarms went off.
The incident occurred March 25 at the Kohl's on Cascades Blvd in Kent.
She told police she heard the announcements that the store was closing in 15 minutes but ignored them.
Officers found stolen merchandise in her purse. Havens later admitted to stealing the merchandise but told police she lied because she was afraid of getting in trouble.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges. Havens is scheduled to be on court May 10.
