50 to 70 people involved in large fight at Richland County fairgrounds

About 50 to 70 people were involved in a large brawl at the Richland County Fairgrounds over the weekend.

A member of the Richland County Sheriff's Office, who was at the fairgrounds, witnessed the fight just before 11 p.m. Saturday.

At one point, the deputy who was on scene says one person picked up a metal table and hit several other people. Other people were seen throwing boxes at each other.

When the deputy ordered the crowd to break it up, people began running away. As the crowd was dispersing, the deputy says several references to known Mansfield area gangs and possible retaliation for the night's brawl were heard.

As soon as officers from the Mansfield and Ontario Police Departments and Ohio State Police arrived on scene, the crowd was removed from the fairgrounds. No one was detained.

No injuries or property damage were reported.

The sheriff's department says the case is inactive pending reports of injuries or property damage.
