A cat was seriously injured in Richland County after someone set off a firecracker in her rectum, according to the Humane Society of Richland County.

The cat was a neighborhood cat for the past year and was last seen living in the area of Pine Bridge Apartments complex, located at 135 E. Cook Rd in Mansfield.

The incident happened on Monday and the employees at the Humane Society of Richland County took the cat to the vet for surgery, where she is staying at Phillips Animal Hospital. The cat is currently on pain medications but is enjoying chin scratches, according to the humane society.

"We have no words. We need all your good thoughts and vibes for her. We aren't sure if she will make it, it depends on the extent of the damage," a post read on the humane society's Facebook.

If you would like to donate to her care,  you can contact the Phillips Animal Hospital at 419-526-4212
