SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a 25-year-old man on Sunday evening in Stark County, according to a news release from state troopers.
The crash happened shortly before 9:00 p.m. on US Route 250 near mile post 4 in Sugarcreek Township, located in Stark County.
A 25-year-old man, identified as Melvin J. Hershberger, of Beach City, was traveling southeast in a 2008 Dodge Ram truck when he traveled left of center, causing him to hit a 1996 Freightliner FLD 120 semi head on, according to the release.
The impact of the crash caused the semi to travel off the north side of the road. The pickup truck then went off the south side of the road.
Hershberger died from injuries during the crash, troopers said.
The driver of the semi sustained minor injuries and was transported by Beach City EMS to Union Hospital.
Troopers said both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
