Suspected human remains found by contractor working near oil well in Stark County

PIKE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Investigators are working to identify suspected human remains that were found near an oil well in Stark County by a contractor Monday night.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office says that the remains were located around 11 p.m. in the 5200 block of Sandy Avenue Southeast in Pike Township.

The remains were badly decomposed, and the age and gender of the person has not been determined, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office and the county coroner are investigating.

No additional information has been released.
