Police are trying to figure out why a 73-year-old man apparently shot and killed a 33-year-old man in Massillon Saturday night, before turning the gun on himself.

Officials say a woman called police around 9:30 p.m., saying that her husband had been shot outside a detached building behind their home on 24th Street SW.

Responding officers found 33-year-old Dustin Woods lying on the ground from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

While at the scene, officers learned that 73-year-old William McCullough was renting the detached building from Woods. Since officers were unable to determine whether McCullough was inside his rental unit, SWAT was called to the scene.

Once they arrived, SWAT officers began speaking with McCullough.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, a single gunshot was heard from inside the home.

McCullough was found to be incapacitated but still breathing from a self-inflicted wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Detectives are still gathering information and the shooting is under investigation.
