A Stark County Sheriff's Office deputy was killed Sunday night in an accidental shooting.
Sheriff deputies and Greentown Fire Department crews were called to a home at 9:47 p.m. on Vixen Street in Lake Township. There they learned there was an accidental discharge of a gun causing a bullet to travel through a wall.
The deputy was identified as John Campbell.
Campbell, who was the chief deputy, joined the Stark County Sheriff’s Office in February 2015. Prior to being employed by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, he was employed by the Ohio Investigative Unit as an agent in charge of the Canton, Toledo and Cleveland Districts.
Campbell is survived by his wife, Tammy, and their two sons John and Joshua.
