A teen who went missing from Akron earlier this month has been found dead with a gunshot wound to her head in New Franklin, the Summit County Medical Examiner confirmed Monday.
The body of Samantha Guthrie, 18, of Akron, was discovered on Sunday in a secluded area of Rex Hill Road in New Franklin, located at the southern edge of Summit County.
The medical examiner completed an autopsy, which revealed the cause of death was the gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide, the medical examiner confirmed.
Guthrie's mother reported her missing on Nov. 5. Her disappearance was believed to be suspicious, according to authorities.
Detectives are signing an additional charge of murder on 39-year-old Danny A. Hamby and 31-year-old Toni Kenney, who are currently incarcerated at Summit County Jail on charges of with tampering with evidence and obstructing justice in connection with Guthrie's disappearance.
Her disappearance prompted the founder of national nonprofit Texas EqquSearch to assist with the search by bringing in volunteers to search on foot and on ATVs earlier last week.
