COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 20-year-old Cleveland man Wednesday for allegedly breaking into a liquor store in Green and then fleeing from authorities by jumping in a lake.

The suspect, Antoine D. Sandford, is charged with breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sandford was one of four people authorities say broke into a beverage store on South Main Street around 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

A deputy who responded to the scene saw four people flee in a red vehicle and gave chase. The suspect vehicle eventually crashed on Peach Drive in Coventry Township. All four of the occupants jumped out and ran off. One of them, later identified as Sandford, jumped into Long Lake Channel and was arrested when he came out of the water.

Authorities said that Sandford was treated on scene by paramedics and then transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 330-620-9738.
