Driver dead, three construction workers injured when car crashes into work zone on Route 8

One person was killed and three construction workers were injured Saturday morning after a car drove into a truck in a closed construction zone, according to Stow police.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m., near mile post 7.9 on State Route 8, when the car entered a construction zone and hit an occupied work truck in an area that was closed for street paving, police said.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are withholding the identity of the driver until the person's next of kin have been notified.

One of the workers was ejected from the back of the work truck and taken to a nearby hospital. His injuries are unknown at this time.

The other two workers were treated on scene by first responders and released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
