Driver found with multiple gunshot wounds after crashing car on I-77 in Coventry Township

A man was found unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds after he crashed his vehicle into a guardrail on Interstate 77 in Coventry Township.

The crashed happened on Saturday at around 9:54 p.m.

When the Summit County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash, they found a 22-year-old man who appeared to be unconscious slumped over the center console inside a silver BMW that stopped in the northbound lanes.

Authorities forced the door open and removed the driver. The driver had multiple gunshots wounds and was showing no signs of life, according to the sheriff's office.

Through a preliminary investigation, authorities determined the shooting happened on I-77 south near Wilbeth Road in Akron.

Deputies performed first aid until the Coventry Fire Department arrived. The driver was revived on scene and transported to Summa Akron City Hospital.

The driver is expected to survive, the sheriff's office reports.
