Macedonia police say the person who was struck and killed on I-271 southbound died by suicide early Wednesday morning.
A Macedonia police officer discovered the body during a routine patrol, police said.
According to police, it appears the person positioned themselves on the highway and was involved in a single-car crash just before 2 a.m. Police said it appears the person's actions were "deliberate and of their own volition."
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver who struck the individual did not stop. Police believe there is front-end damage to the vehicle.
The highway shut down around 4 a.m. and was closed for over three hours. It has since reopened.
