Man arrested for allegedly stealing purse from 70-year-old woman, breaking her hip

AKRON, Ohio — A 27-year-old man was arrested this week for snatching a 70-year-old woman’s purse, knocking her to the ground and breaking her hip.

Anthony E. Haynes is charged with aggravated robbery, according to Summit County Jail records.

The attack happened on Sept. 13 near East Waterloo Road and Brown Street in Akron, according to News 5’s media partner Ohio.com.

The woman was getting out of her car when the suspect reached into her vehicle and grabbed her purse from the front seat, Ohio.com reported.

The suspect then turned around and got into a nearby car and the woman chased after him demanding her purse. The suspect allegedly then removed the woman’s wallet and tossed the purse back to her, according to Ohio.com.

When the woman asked for her wallet back, the suspect got out of the vehicle and pushed her to the ground,Ohio.com reported.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with a broken hip, according to Ohio.com.

The suspect was later arrested.
