SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A SWAT standoff ended with a 35-year-old Akron man hospitalized after he barricaded himself at a Red Roof Inn in Springfield Township where he threatened to kill police officers and himself, according to a release from the Springfield Township Police Department.

At around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers from the Springfield Township Police Department responded to the Red Roof Inn on South Arlington Road for a report of a distraught male.

A 35-year-old man told family members that he had a gun and bomb. He threatened he would kill himself and officers.

The man barricaded himself inside a room, where he continued to make threats of self-harm and to officers, according to police.

A firearm and other weapons were found in the room. The Summit County Bomb Unit responded and found no explosives in the room.

The 35-year-old man was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. Police said charges are pending.
