AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A motorcyclist died late Friday night from injuries sustained in a crash after his vehicle collided head-on with an SUV in Ashtabula County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Rodney R. Ward, 48, has been identified as the motorcyclist who died.
The crash happened in Austinburg Township around 10:50 p.m. on Friday.
Authorities say Ward was heading south on Windsor Mechanicsville Road, just north of Orchard Grove Drive, on a 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Ward crossed over the center lane and struck a 2003 Ford Escape that was heading north.
Ward was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died, OSHP said. He wasn’t wearing a helmet. The Ford’s driver, a 46-year-old Ashtabula resident, wasn’t injured in the crash.
A preliminary investigation shows that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
The matter remains under investigation.
