COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Summit Metro Crash Response Team are investigating after a two-car crash in Coventry Township Monday night sent both drivers to the hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities responded at around 10 p.m. Monday to Portage Lakes Drive near Longworth Lane.
A 21-year-old man from Barberton was traveling westbound at a high-rate of speed on Portage Lakes Drive in a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon when he lost control of his vehicle.
He entered the eastbound lane of traffic, causing him to hit a 2019 Kia Forte, driven by a 16-year-old female from Coventry Township. The 16-year-old and her 63-year-old female passenger and a 21-year-old female passenger were taken with serious injuries to an area hospital.
The 21-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Drugs or alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash, along with excessive speed.
Three occupants in the Kia Forte did not appear to be wearing seat belts, deputies said.
The crash remains under investigation.
