Pedestrian struck, killed by a vehicle on I-77 in the city of Green

GREEN, Ohio — A pedestrian on I-77 was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling northbound in the city of Green, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

The crash happened on Tuesday at around 10:30 p.m. on I-77 near mile marker 119 when an 18-year-old male from Akron driving a Volkswagen struck the pedestrian whom the sheriff's office says was in the roadway.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

I-77 northbound was closed for approximately five hours.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
