COPLEY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Authorities in Summit County are investigating the homicide of a 73-year-old woman in Copley Township on Christmas Eve.

The Copley Police Department said that the woman's son, Nicholas Sibbio, 41, is currently being held at the Summit County Jail on a murder charge.

At around 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 24, Sibbio showed up at the police station and said he wanted to turn himself in for the death of his mother, police said.

Copley police later responded to the 1500 block of Centerview Drive where the two shared a home and found the woman dead inside. The woman was identified as Nancy Sibbio. Authorities said it appears she had been dead for an extended period of time.

According to police, Nicholas Sibbio told investigators that around 2:30 a.m. he got into an argument with his mother and then allegedly assaulted her, which resulted in her death.

The son waited several hours after the alleged attack and then went to the police station to report the crime, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for the woman on Saturday.
