The son of a retired Summit County Chief Deputy died from his injuries in a horrific crash earlier this month, according to a Facebook post by the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
Gary James Jr. died on Sunday after spending time in the intensive care unit for injuries he received during the crash that happened out of state.
In an earlier post on Oct. 2, the Summit County Sheriff's Office said former Chief Deputy Gary James was with his two sons and their cousin when they were struck by a vehicle that was traveling at a high-rate of speed.
All four occupants were taken to the hospital for treatment following the crash.
As of Sunday, Gary James, his other son and their cousin were released from the hospital.
