AKRON, Ohio — A popular Akron pet store is closing its doors after 36 years, according to an article by News 5 media partner Akron Beacon Journal.
Two Turtles Pet Center, a staple of the Highland Square neighborhood since 1983, will be closing following the retirement of husband and wife owners Rick Johnson and Mary Kay Roediger, the article said.
Johnson and Roediger are leaving the business, not just due to the increase in competition, but because they’ve had enough of long hours, little free time and cleaning fish tanks, according to the article.
Attempts to sell the business were halted by the fact that the Two Turtles’ lease is up, the article said.
Starting Friday, Two Turtles Pet Center will sell its remaining inventory at discounted prices, 30 to 40 percent off of the goods and animals in the store, according to the article.
The store’s last day of business will be Sept. 15, the article said.
