NEWCOMERSTOWN, Ohio — The Newcomerstown School District is moving all in-person learning to remote learning for high school students after a student-athlete tested positive for COVID-19, which caused many staff members to self-quarantine, the school board said in a Facebook post.
The move to remote learning was due to the lack of substitute teachers. The district made clear that there is not an outbreak of COVID-19 at the high school.
This week’s and next week’s high school football games will be canceled. High school volleyball games will be postponed and/or canceled through the end of next week.
Middle school sports will play as scheduled.
“We appreciate the cooperation and help from the Tuscarawas County Health Department. They have been a valuable resource. Both of us are bound by the mandates that have been given to us by the state and federal government as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” the district said.
