16-year-old killed in car crash in Wayne County

PAINT TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 16-year-old boy was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday night in Wayne County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 8:55 p.m. on Western Road in Paint Township.

Authorities have not released the teen’s identity.

According to OSHP, the teen was driving a 2003 Toyota Matrix eastbound on Western Road. The vehicle went off the left side of the road and the teen over-corrected which caused the vehicle to go off the right side of the road and hit two trees.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the crash, but said alcohol is not thought to be a factor.
