WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred in Wayne County Friday afternoon.
Around 2:43 p.m., a 2017 Ford Fusion failed to stop at a posted stop sign at an intersection in Canaan Township, according to troopers.
The Ford pulled into the patch of a 2006 Trailblazer, which then struck the front of the Ford, causing it to spin and come to rest in a nearby yard. The Trailblazer then traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a utility pole, troopers said.
The driver of the Ford, later identified as 89-year-old Elizabeth Gasser, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.
The 18-year-old driver of the Trailblazer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, troopers said.
OSHP is currently investigating the crash.
This is the first fatal crash in Wayne County in 2020.
