GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Wayne County on Christmas Eve.

Around 9:25 p.m., a 2011 GMC Canyon was traveling south on Honeytown Road when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the Smithville Western Road intersection, according to troopers.

The GMC struck a 2009 Honda Accord that was making a left turn from northbound Honeytown Road onto Smithville Western Road.

The passenger of the Honda, 87-year-old Phyllis Workman, was transported to Wooster Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to troopers.

The driver of the Honda received minor injuries and the driver of the GMC was uninjured, troopers said.

Authorities closed Honeytown road for about two hours while they investigated the crash.

Troopers believe alcohol to be a factor in the crash.
