The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious crash involving two semi-tractor trailers Tuesday night on I-71 in Wayne County.

Troopers said a semi pulling a box trailer was disabled and partially in the right lane of I-71 southbound with no trailer lights. As it was sitting in the lane, a Volvo semi pulling a box trailer, driven by an Eastlake man, hit the disabled semi.

The driver of the Volvo semi became entrapped in the semi upon impact and had to be extricated by mechanical means, troopers said.

He was life-flighted to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with potentially serious injuries, authorities said.

The driver of the disabled trailer refused treatment and sustained a possible leg injury.

Troopers said both drivers were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
