RITTMAN, Ohio — A 7-year-old girl was forced to sleep and eat on a concrete floor inside a Rittman home, police said.

On Thursday, officers assisted two employees from Wayne County Children Services to perform a welfare check on a child.

Police were met with resistance from residents inside the home, despite having a court order, according to a news release.

The outside of the home appeared to be unkempt and dirty, according to officers on scene.

While officers were checking the residence, they found three adults and six children living in the home, along with about 15 cats and two dogs.

It was reported that one 7-year-old girl was forced to sleep and eat on the concrete basement floor, police said.

The child was taken away from the home by the county and placed into emergency custody.
