WOOSTER, Ohio — The Wooster City School District is morning the death of an 11th-grade girl on the first day of school, according to an article by News 5 media partner The Daily-Record.
Alexis Coleman, a student Wooster High School was set to begin the first day of her junior year. She died Monday after an extended illness, the article said.
Coleman was a member of the band and the girls bowling team, working hard to make the team after missing eligibility her freshman year, according to the article.
The junior was also set to start her first year at the Wayne County Schools Career Center, the article said.
The school is providing counselors and mental health professionals for students and staff and encourages parents to talk to their children in the time of grief.
