AKRON, Ohio — A freelance cab driver in Akron crashed her car last week after being robbed at gunpoint by a passenger she met on social media, according to police.
It happened on Sept. 11 around 7:30 p.m. in 600 block of Payne Avenue, Akron police said.
The 19-year-old cab driver later told police that a passenger contacted her on social media, and she picked them up in the 60 block of Byers Avenue. She had only taken him a short distance when the passenger pulled out a gun and demanded her purse, police said. The woman then crashed her car and the passenger ran off.
The passenger, later identified as Devinere Arnold, 21, was later arrested and charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the incident.
Anyone who may have information regarding the robbery is asked to call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490.
