Photos inside a Euclid apartment building show an ugly mess of piles of garbage and frustrated residents want it cleaned up.
The photos were provided to News 5 by Euclid City Councilman Daryl Langman.
Langman said there are piles of trash in the elevators and staircases at Northpointe Towers on Lakeshore Boulevard.
He said the apartment’s management has been summoned to appear in municipal court Thursday to see what their plan is for cleaning up the trash regularly.
"Clearly the photos speak for themselves, they're totally disgusting," Langman said.
Langman said residents have complained to him for months about the stacks of smelly garbage.
"Basic human decency says that nobody should have to live under those conditions," Langman said.
Video from the city’s law director also shows numerous rats infesting the dumpsters.
The city also sent the apartment management a notice of violation concerning the rat infestation.
A resident who didn’t want to be identified said the garbage chutes get clogged and residents don’t want to use the rat-infested dumpsters.
The building’s new maintenance director, who did not want to be identified, said new management within the last 30 days is working to correct the problems and called some residents lazy for not taking the trash to the dumpster.
He said residents need to be educated not to put things like boxes in the chutes which causes them to get clogged.
Langman said there are no excuses for the garbage inside the building.
"When you have that much trash, rat issues, bug issues, crumbling balconies clearly the building is in very poor shape and that's the owner's responsibility," Langman said.
